A total of 88 species belonging to 39 genera were collected from the said area. The genus Dendrobium was best represented with 16 species. Majority of orchids were epiphytic. Lagerstroemia flos-reginae was the most preferred host of the epiphytic orchids. Coconut husk tied on wooden sticks was found to be the best potting medium for the eppiphytic orchids. Foliar anatomical studies revealed that these features could also be used in taxonomic consideration along with morphological considerations.
  • Orchid Collections/identification was done from Alipurduar (West Bengal) area.
  • Their distribution patterns, habit, habitat, biological status was recorded.
  • Phorophytye specificity and zonation was noted for epiphytic orchids.
  • Propagation methods as well as potting mediums were explored.
  • Foliar anatomy of the collected species was studied.
